What Findlay Creek is
A growing south-end community off Bank Street, with newer homes, parks and quick access to Hunt Club and the airport. The creek it is named for springs in the Leitrim Wetlands, directly south of the neighbourhood, and flows to the North Castor River.
The Findlay Creek Community Association is the volunteer group that represents the neighbourhood.
How Findlay Creek was planned
- May 1988: the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton began rezoning the area for urban use.
- May 1989: the Leitrim Official Plan Amendment No. 10 was released, with push-back from groups such as the Ottawa Field Naturalists Club over the wetland the subdivision would partly replace.
- November 2003: the Leitrim Community Design Plan began, to build the community with a mix of land uses and housing types.
- 2020: a plan to widen Bank Street along Findlay Creek was announced, and work began in 2022.
How to get around Findlay Creek
Leitrim station, on Gilligan Road, opened on January 6, 2025. It has two elevated platforms, a bus loop and a Park & Ride lot that opened with 290 spaces, with room planned for up to 925. Line 2 runs north to Bayview every 12 minutes; at South Keys it meets Line 4 to the airport.
Two regular bus routes serve the neighbourhood, the 93 and the 94, and school route 699 passes through on its way to École secondaire publique Pierre-de-Blois in Barrhaven.
Why Findlay Creek and Riverside South are often compared
They share a ward, Riverside South-Findlay Creek, and both were part of the City of Gloucester. Both grew as new suburbs and both are on Line 2. The difference is the setting: Riverside South runs along the Rideau River with Limebank and Bowesville stations, while Findlay Creek sits off Bank Street beside the Leitrim Wetlands, with Leitrim station.
