Greely Homes for Sale
Greely is a rural village in the south of the City of Ottawa, in Osgoode Ward, and it was part of Osgoode Township until 2001. Most homes sit on half-acre to two-acre lots, and it is the largest rural village in the city by land area.
What and where Greely is
A rural village south of the city, known for larger lots, country homes and space to spread out within reach of Ottawa. The Greely Community Association draws its boundaries at Sale Barn Road and Greyscreek Road on the east, Mitch Owens Road on the north, Manotick Station Road on the west and Snake Island Road on the south.
Osgoode Ward, which Greely belongs to, covers the rural southeast corner of the city: Greely, Osgoode, Metcalfe, Vars, Carlsbad Springs and a number of smaller hamlets.
What homes in Greely are like
Most homes sit on lots of half an acre to two acres. Some developers built amenities into their communities, such as pools, tennis courts, man-made lakes, beaches and small community centres. The number of dwellings rose 58.7% between 2000 and 2008, and the village still holds large areas of undeveloped land within its boundaries.
Before you buy on a rural lot
On a large lot, a few questions belong in the first conversation, not the last:
- Is the home on a private well and septic system, or on municipal services? The listing and the seller’s disclosure should say.
- If it is on a well and septic system, which inspections and water tests do you want as conditions of your offer?
- Does the lot include anything the subdivision maintains together, such as a pond, beach or community centre?
How to get from Greely to the rest of Ottawa
Bank Street runs past the village, and the commercial development at Parkway Road and Bank Street holds a 24-hour grocery store with a liquor and beer store. For transit, Bowesville station on O-Train Line 2 opened on January 6, 2025, as a connection point for the southern communities, Greely among them, with a Park & Ride lot that opened with 800 spaces.
From there Line 2 runs north to Bayview every 12 minutes.
The next stop north on the same line is Leitrim station, which serves Findlay Creek.
Why Greely’s community centre is the heart of the village
The Greely Community Centre hosts meetings and activities for the village, including a Winter Carnival and a Canada Day celebration each year. Greely’s branch of the Ottawa Public Library opened in 1976, and its new 3,500-square-foot library, built as an extension of the community centre at 1448 Meadow Drive, opened on March 14, 2011.
In summer the village holds a weekly outdoor market of local makers. Greely also has a commercial district of small and medium manufacturing and service companies.

Questions
Questions about Greely
What is it like to live in Greely?
It is a rural village of the City of Ottawa where most homes sit on half-acre to two-acre lots, organised around the Greely Community Centre and its library, with a summer market and a Winter Carnival.
What should I check before buying a Greely home on a well and septic system?
Confirm from the listing and the seller’s disclosure whether the home is on a private well and septic system. If it is, make the inspections and water tests you want conditions of your offer, and ask your home inspector and lawyer what to review. Your agent builds those conditions into the offer with you.
Is there shopping in Greely?
Some. The development at Parkway Road and Bank Street has a 24-hour grocery store with a liquor and beer store, and the village has gas stations, a few restaurants and a summer market. Larger shopping is in the suburbs to the north.
How close is Greely to the rest of Ottawa?
Its northern boundary is Mitch Owens Road, Bank Street runs past the village, and Bowesville station on Line 2 serves it as a Park & Ride. We do not quote a drive time to downtown, because it depends on the route and the hour.
Is Greely part of the City of Ottawa?
Yes. It was in Osgoode Township until the 2001 amalgamation and is now in Osgoode Ward (Ward 20).
